Martha Lou
Durham
Feb 18, 1941 — Apr 20, 2022
Henderson
Martha Lou Durham was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Warren County, North Carolina to Frank and Mary Robinson Durham. She left to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 20, 2022.
At an early age, she joined Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton, where she began serving the Lord until her final moments. She began her education in Warren County Schools, but left North Carolina as a young adult, to live nearly 50 years in Baltimore, Maryland.
In Baltimore, she continued her education at Baltimore Community College, "BCC," and worked as a teacher's aide in the Baltimore City Public School System, all while raising her three children, Charles, Trisha and Andrew. When her health began to fail, she returned to North Carolina and lived in Henderson.
Known by her closest relatives as "Boon," she was short in stature, but had the fierceness of a lioness and did not mince words. She instilled her fierceness in each of her children. She taught them the importance of standing up for themselves, but also to lean on the Lord and His unchanging hand.
She loved Baltimore, her adopted home, whether catching "hacks" around the city or shopping at Lexington Market, but she remained a country girl at heart. She also loved her family, most of whom preceded her in death, including both her parents and each of her siblings, Frank Durham Jr., Robert Lee Durham, John Edward Durham, Dorothy Lee Durham, Lucy Mae Durham Jefferys, and Corrine Moore. Her youngest child, James Andrew "Ant" Durham, also preceded her.
She leaves her remaining children to cherish her memory, Charles Durham (Sonya) of Creedmoor, North Carolina, and Luetricia "Trisha" Durham Owens (Keith) of Henderson; as well as her grandchildren, Tiffany Williamson (Marvin) of Tampa, Florida, Tia Durham of Baltimore, Maryland, C.J. Durham of Durham, North Carolina, Lucas Durham (Briyanna) of Henderson, North Carolina, Nile Owens of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Taylor King of Los Angeles, California; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
